When I have the device plugged into the laptop using the provided usb cable, I get this message when trying to re-sync. Is it possible to recover a credit / license for a vehicle where the ECM has either failed or been involved in a wreck where I would replace the ECM and use that vehicles initial credits to reflash and tune the replacement ECM without the requirement for additional credits to tune the same vehicle again? In other words it takes two credits to license an LS1 vehicle.

I flash and log with a laptop, leave the MPVI2 in the car, and edit files at my desktop PC. MPVI2 never gets plugged into the desktop. Files open just fine. All mine work fine without the interface plugged in, I've never seen the issue the others are describing.This is telling you that something else is out of line from what the engine wants. As a small test, you can soften up the knock sensors and drop the timing to to make sure it isn't the typical "gm riding the knock sensor" situation.
