Aug 11, 2012 · Our machine is an 'all factory' 2009 Ranger 700 EFI HD. The 'HD' designation means that it comes with power steering, a dump bed and an self-leveling system on the rear axle. Ranger 500 4x4 gear shifting problems. '05 Polaris Ranger 500 4x4 has approx .350hrs. Noticed about 4 months ago when I shift gear lever into H, it made a grinding sound. I needed to shift it back to N a couple times and then into H until I hear it click into H. Sometimes it goes in first try and other times it takes a few attempts.

The light being on shows that there is a problem with the EPS. First thing is to check and clean all the electrical connections on the EPS unit. I then took that cover off to make sure the roller hadn't come off the pawl arm and that the spring pushing against the arm was still there and complete.
