I had to replace the bent turret plate on my old MEC 600 Jr. The hole for the reprime ram is larger than the original. I tried to washer it up, but can't seem to keep the ram straight. Upgrade the pre-crimp to the "spin-dex" version, this will allow to to achieve any pre-crimp you want. The original one was adjusted using fender washers and only allowed 1/16" adjustments. Once again, if your pre-crimp is black in color this has already been done. Get a new charge bar and a bunch of powder bushings.

I load 12, 16 and 20 ga. on MEC 600 Jr. Mk5 machines. Probably in excess of 40K shells on the 12 ga. I've never experienced the malfunction you describe. Sounds like it was not properly tightened at the factory. I believe I would try Thread-Lock or some other alternative to drilling/tapping for a #2 screw. If it has a flat base plate and a silver sticker with the S/N then its a pre 82. If it has a slightly raised base plate and doesn't say mk.5 then its a 82-85.
