The M9A3 grip covers are also very thin from side to side. It's thin both ways basically. They're actually 100% compatible with the standard M9/92FS frame, but because there is no bulge at the bottom of the grip on the Vertec frame it won't contour perfectly. You can see what it looks like here .
To me it just has better ergonomic features and seems to fit a wider range of hand sizes. The legendary reliability and the fact that it is the choice of the Navy Seals over the Beretta helps to seal the deal, for me anyway. Hard time finding sights for a Beretta 92A1. I used the Dawson .140 x .125 front fiber optic sight along with a Novak .290 white dot rear sight. With the .270 rear it shot a little low. It worked out well. No other fiber optic sight comes close. 5. Posted by Ray P. on Feb 9th 2016

I sent my M9A1 slide to Tool Tech to replace the rear sight with a Trijicon rear and they drilled and inserted a Trijicon filament into the front sight (it was milled into the slide). When they sent it back to me, they sent back the original rear sight. I'll try to find it. If it will work, you can have it.
There seem to be some cosmetic differences between the two guns, and I've held the M9A1, so I've seen it up close. I really like it. I just don't know whether getting the 17rd magazine with the 92A1 is worth it because I have about 20 15rd mags, so it won't make much of a difference. It was shot with 115 grain to 147-grain subsonic ammo. There were no failures and had no lubrication during the firing session.
