Short answer: yes. Long answer: depends, some books are amazing as lore substitutes, other books are basically mandatory for understanding current plotlines while still being retconned by those same plotlines. I would recommend reading War of the Ancients Trilogy, the Arthas book, Stormrage, and the Illidan book.Survivors, who we know existed. The biggest enclaves of them naturally got killed off by the Horde: Theramore, Hillsbrad, etc, but a huge chunk of the people living in Stormwind would have ties to Lordaeron due to the time they'd have spent in Capital City while Stormwind was occupied and later being rebuilt.
