She told me my cervix is short and that she could touch babies head while she was checking me. I was put on bed rest until 36 weeks, so the situation was a little different. But even without bed rest after 36 weeks (and already 4 cm dilated), I made it another 2 weeks. Also if you want baby to come at 39 weeks I wouldn't be doing things to help induce labor. While they likely won't work early, I wouldn't start doing anything special til around 38 weeks at the earlier. At my 38 week appointment I was 4 cm dilated and the doctor could touch the baby's head! I am still pregnant! You can walk around dilated and effaced for weeks before the baby comes. That said, just look for the signs of labor and call your doctor if you suspect something is happening.
