Here are some pics and my first impressions..... First, all 4 bows came in out of spec. Draw weight was pretty high (77# on one!) so I brought them back in spec before shooting. These comments go for the Alpha X as well. As usual not much difference except weight. These bows were right on the money as to draw length once put in spec.

Nov 17, 2023 · I have always liked Hoyt's groups from a manufacturing standpoint. Crazy that I spend $1250 on a bow to buy a $70 grip (Mathews) the engage just wobbles in my hand. I like their Picatinny mounting system. Wish the Z1s got an updated riser. $1500 for a bow that has an older riser is crazy and I do realize this is MSRP.

I am a Hoyt fan and have been for 30+ years. I have tried (owned and shot) the other brands but feel that Hoyt feels and shoots best for me. Typically Mathews bows feel top heavy and physically heavy overall. All bows where put on draw board and timed, draw weight was taken and draw length was measured. Three bows I shot were Mathews lift 29.5, Hoyt Alpha X 30, Hoyt RX-8 30 inch. Both Hoyt’s where 70.1 lbs at 28.5dl measured. Mathews was 72lbs with 28 mod (measured 28 3/8). The bowshop I work with says a 50-60 pound bow set at 60 will shoot better than a 60-70 set at 60. Ironically I have both of those exact bows from his video as well. I can vouch I shoot the Hoyt much better than my Mathews and even at 28" draw torque tuning was kind of a waste of time with my VXR. Nonetheless I enjoy both of them, but real world shooting proved the Hoyt works best for me and my shooting style.
