Yep this 100% works. The last 3 cruises we have been on we have gone with another couple and put the guys in 1 room on paper and the guys got the drink package and was able to share drinks pretty easily with the girls. Makes the package so much more worth it. As others have said, once you board, just go to guest services and get an extra room key.
