Firewood counts more for the "wood" demand than logs. Put workers in the barn as Farmer and Field Worker. Field workers do not require any skills (not even farming skill) but Farmers do. Make sure you have farm fields built, appropriate seeds, and plenty of fertilizer. Seeds in Food Storage and Fert in resource storage.
